Dexter Fowler Injury: Updates on Cubs OF's Hamstring and Return

Chicago Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler was placed on the disabled list on June 20 after experiencing right hamstring discomfort against the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 18. However, he has been cleared to return.

The Cubs announced that Fowler will play against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.

Fowler's Return Restores Cubs' Outfield Depth

The Cubs lost 23-year-old left fielder Kyle Schwarber to a torn ACL and LCL at the dawn of the 2016 campaign, which made Fowler's role with the club all the more pivotal this year.

Fowler has established himself as a viable starter in the midst of a loaded young core that headlines Chicago's roster. He's had an excellent 2016 campaign thus far with a slash line of .290/.398/.483.

Prior to the injury, the Cubs were 43-18 this season with Fowler in the starting lineup, so they'll be happy to see the switch-hitter back in the fold.
