Cancer and Sports Part 3 Of Many
I had to be off the computer for Yom Kippur but we have had to keep the TV on for Jeff. Hopefully G-d is a sports fan and understands what the games mean around here. After a disastrous Saturday night and Jeff getting weaker as PSU continued to lose, we had a great Sunday!
The full effects of chemo have set in and yet as I write, Jeff is sitting up totally engaged in Monday night football waiting for his kicker to win both fantasy leagues for him (I lost mine, thanks again TO - for nothing). With Joe Flacco and the Ravens' great performance and the Eagles looking very sharp (thanks, really, to Kevin Kolb who showed his stuff along with DeShawn Jackson and Brett Celek) Jeff had a good enough day to eat some supper last night and cereal for breakfast. Football did all that.
Tonight, as we broke the Fast, Jeff had his Blackberry in hand checking the Phillies' score. His ups and downs really mirror the Phillies' performances on the diamond so I am continually root, root rooting for the home team. As they lost he showed more signs of fatigue. I never cheered for teams or individual players as much as I do now. Fortunately Monday Night Football was coming on and we brought Jeff home from the cafe (where we broke the Fast). As soon as he arrived it was all about the computer to check his points and standings and now we have the Monday Night game.
The beauty of Fantasy Football is that we have multiple games and players to cheer for. If each of them perform it is a great day and even when one player misses a beat, there are 15 others (30 - considering there are 2 different leagues). I am now a bigger fan of Fantasy ball than ever. It is literally a lifeline and I love every player who was out there on Jeff's teams. He won two matches...it was a good weekend.
The lights just went out and football is done for a few days. I am busy praying not just for Jeff but the Phillies...we need a few wins to get the division title and then there is football again. Let's go Phillies...I am counting on you, for real!
