Florida Spring Game 2016: Live Score, Top Performers and Analysis
Blue 44, Orange 6—Final
Luke Del Rio shined during the 2016 Orange & Blue Debut on Friday, leading the Blue team to a 44-6 victory over the Orange.
The Alabama and Oregon State transfer completed 10-of-11 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns against the second-string defense. Del Rio hit DeAndre Goolsby and Dre Massey for those scores.
Del Rio took an important—though far from definitive—step toward securing the starting job. Austin Appleby (6-of-8, 44 YDS) played reasonably well against the first-stringers, though.
Mark Thompson tallied a game-best 46 rushing yards and a score on just five carries, but he also fumbled. On the bright side, the blocking for Thompson's 26-yard counter touchdown was superb.
Duke Dawson had two interceptions, and Kylan Johnson—who recorded a scrimmage-high eight tackles—added another. Eddy Pineiro connected on three field goals, including a long of 56.
