Chelsea Transfer News: Alexandre Pato Turned Down by West Ham, Latest Rumours

Tom BeckApr 8, 2016

West Ham United have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Chelsea loanee Alexandre Pato at the end of the season, with the Brazilian striker desperately seeking a new club.

Per Matt Law of the Telegraph, the back-up attacker is sure he will not be offered a permanent deal at Stamford Bridge and is unwilling to return back to parent club Corinthians after gaining a taste of Premier League football.

Having agreed to a loan deal in west London in January, it took the 26-year-old more than two months to gain his first Premier League exposure, scoring from the penalty spot in the 4-0 drubbing of Premier League basement club Aston Villa on April 2.

Per Law, the Brazil attacker—who shot to fame during his time with Serie A outfit AC Milan with lightening pace and eye for goal—has been unable to persuade Premier League high-flyers West Ham to make a move.

The Hammers are reportedly eyeing a striker capable of scoring 20 goals a season—a feat Pato has been unable to achieve during his spells with Internacional, Milan, Corinthians and Sao Paulo, per Soccerway

First-choice striker Diego Costa remains suspended for Chelsea's upcoming clash with Swansea City on Saturday owing to the three match ban he received for improper conduct in the FA Cup quarter-final away at Everton.

Meanwhile, Frenchman Loic Remy is sidelined due to injury, meaning head coach Guus Hiddink may hand Pato another starting berth and the opportunity to prove his talent.

In other transfer news, Roma president James Pallotta has reportedly denied claims star midfielder Miralem Pjanic will be heading to Chelsea in the season.

Per ESPN's Ben Gladwell, Pallotta described the rumours of Pjanic's impending exit as "ridiculous" on the club's website, despite incoming manager Antonio Conte reportedly eager to sign the Bosnia and Herzegovina playmaker during his first pre-season in charge in west London.

Pjanic—who has become known as a superb set-piece taker this season—has enjoyed a stunning campaign domestically and in Europe this term, having contributed 11 goals and 11 assists, per WhoScored.com.

Another Roma player tipped to be on his way to Chelsea is Radja Nainggolan, with the 35million-rated midfielder reportedly high on the wish-list of incoming coach Antonio Conte.

Per the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano and Marcus Christenson, the Belgium international is edging closer to the Olympic Stadium exit, with Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini supposedly travelling to London to hold negotiation talks with Chelsea officials over a deal.

The 27-year-old has become a key player for the Romans following his transfer from Genoa in 2014 and Italy coach Conte has made the playmaker's signature his top priority.

Elsewhere, and in a separate article for the Telegraph, Law said Spain international Costa is considering making a big-money move to China to join their Super League revolution.

Former club Atletico Madrid remain the attacker's preferred destination should he depart the Premier League champions this summer. However, Costa remains open to the idea of a move to the Far East should a deal fail to materialise.

The physical brute struggled for form and goals under ex-boss Jose Mourinho at the beginning of the campaign, but he has shown glimpses of his goalscoring ability under interim coach Hiddink to net eight goals in his past 10 Premier League appearances, per Soccerway.
