Dorell Wright to Heat: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

The Miami Heat bolstered their roster Tuesday, signing veteran forward Dorell Wright.  

Ethan J. Skolnick of the Miami Herald first reported the done deal, noting Wright went to dinner with Dwyane Wade and Quentin Richardson on Monday night.

Wright, 30, last played for the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2014-15 season. He's been with the Beikong Fly Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association since August of last year, averaging 24.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game during the regular season.

The former first-round pick spent his first six years in Miami, emerging from a seldom-used high schooler to a vital bench piece. He's since played for the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers in addition to Portland. 

Wright spoke of wanting to find a long-term home in March, per Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders:

People know what I bring as far as shooting and leadership and being a professional. I’d like to go somewhere I could help build something for a series of years, not just somewhere I can go for the months remaining in this season. I want to be on a team that wants me, and wants me to be there for a long time. I’d like to be able to play and showcase what I can do, so that I could be there again next year with my family.

"

The Heat have become something of a haven for veterans. They added Joe Johnson off waivers from the Brooklyn Nets and have found a workable arrangement for Amar'e Stoudemire as a bench producer. Miami's roster as a whole is built of late-prime and past-prime stars with the exception of Justise Winslow and Hassan Whiteside.

Wright brings with him a close friendship to Wade and a floor spacing that any playoff team needs. Miami's going to have an uphill battle in a seven-game series with Chris Bosh still on the mend. Adding any pieces who can help at this point is a smart move.
