Tristan Gebbia to Nebraska: Cornhuskers Land 4-Star QB Prospect

Danny WebsterApr 4, 2016

The Nebraska Cornhuskers landed a huge addition to their 2017 recruiting class with the commitment of 4-star pro-style quarterback Tristan Gebbia from Calabasas, California.

Gebbia made his decision official Monday on Twitter:

Listed as the No. 8 pro-style quarterback in the nation and the 159th-best prospect, Gebbia is the 18th-best prospect in the class of 2017 and is the top quarterback in the state of California.

The city of Calabasas has become a popular destination for head coach Mike Riley the last two seasons, per Tom VanHaaren of ESPN.com.

Gebbia is the third prospect from Calabasas to commit to the Huskers. Marquel Dismuke, a 4-star safety, was part of Nebraska's 2016 recruiting class, and Keyshawn Johnson Jr. is part of the 2017 class.

The addition of Gebbia is not only a huge win for Nebraska, but Gebbia is the kind of quarterback Coach Riley covets for his offense. While the Cornhuskers have had mobile quarterbacks Tommy Armstrong Jr. and Taylor Martinez the last few years, Gebbia is a true pocket passer with one of the best arms in the country.

He threw for over 4,400 yards and 45 touchdowns in his junior year working out of a shotgun, spread-based offense. That's the type of offense Riley runs, and it's the offense that made Sean Mannion one of the best quarterbacks in the country two years ago at Oregon State. Gebbia has a strong arm with a soft, accurate touch that can make him an intriguing college prospect down the road.

The days of running an option-based offense with a mobile quarterback at Nebraska look like they could be over with the addition of Gebbia. Next year could be an exciting time for the Huskers, especially if the QB recruit can contribute as a freshman.
