Manchester United Transfer News: James Rodriguez Seeking Move, Latest Rumours

Rory MarsdenMar 31, 2016

Real Madrid's James Rodriguez has reportedly been offered "to several top clubs" by his agent, Jorge Mendes, as he looks to move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to Spanish outlet El Confidencial (via Metro's George Bellshaw), the Colombian playmaker is all but "certain" to leave Real in the summer, and Manchester United have been heavily linked with him.

The report added Rodriguez is believed to have fallen out with Real manager Zinedine Zidane, and Eden Hazard is being eyed as his replacement.

James, 24, has been out of form for much of the season, both under Zidane and former boss Rafael Benitez.

He has netted five times and provided six assists in 19 La Liga appearances, some way short of the 13 of each he garnered last season, his debut term at the club, per WhoScored.com.

However, Rodriguez remains a world-class player, and it would be quite a coup for United to snap him up.

The Red Devils currently have a number of players who operate in his position with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera all at the club.

However, that should not prevent them from pursuing a player of Rodriguez's quality—in much the same way as it should not stop them going after Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze, as discussed below by Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:

United's squad is currently lacking in superstars, but the addition of Rodriguez would begin to solve that problem.

His performances at the 2014 World Cup, when he burst onto the scene, were of the very highest quality, and he could make a huge impact at United.

Despite a poor current campaign, his immense attacking abilities—his excellent finishing, link-up play and set-piece acumen—are all still there and could make him a major asset at United.

The great Old Trafford sides of the past all had star players in them—Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo—and Rodriguez could be the man for the current team going forward.

He will cost United a lot. Real signed James for £63 million from Monaco and would reportedly demand a similar fee were they to sell him, per El Confidencial (via Sport Witness):

However, it certainly seems like a deal that could go through, not least because of Mendes, who has dealt with United on numerous occasions in the past over major transfers for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria.
