Thomas Sets Record with 14th Straight Game Leading Celtics in Scoring

Bleacher Report MilestonesApr 1, 2016

Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas scored a team-high 22 points in Thursday's 116-109 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, becoming the first player in franchise history to lead the team in scoring for 14 consecutive games, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info).

Larry Bird set the previous record of 13 games during the 1987-88 season, and three other Celtics have put together 10-game streaks leading the team in points.

Thomas' streak began March 2 in Boston's first game of the month, which was also against the aforementioned Trail Blazers.

He scored at least 20 points and logged at least 28 minutes in every game during March, averaging 25.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 0.9 steals and 2.4 turnovers in 32.9 minutes per game with a .448 field-goal percentage, .420 three-point percentage and .856 free-throw percentage

Those numbers aren't too far off from Thomas' season-long averages, with the 27-year-old point guard putting up 22.3 points, 3.0 boards, 6.3 dimes, 1.1 steals and 2.6 turnovers over 32.5 minutes and a .425 field-goal percentage, .356 three-point percentage and .881 free-throw percentage.

He's thrived since coming over from the Phoenix Suns in a midseason trade last year, proving to be an excellent backcourt complement to the more defensive-minded Avery Bradley.
