Sam Acho Re-Signs with Bears: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction

Daniel KramerMar 28, 2016

The Chicago Bears announced Monday they have brought back veteran linebacker Sam Acho on a one-year deal. He's the ninth unrestricted free agent to rejoin the team in March, per the Bears.

Acho joined the Bears last offseason after spending four years with the Arizona Cardinals. He finished the 2015 campaign with 39 tackles, zero sacks and a forced fumble in 15 games, including seven starts.

Acho played on 43 percent of the Bears’ defensive snaps last year, per Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune, and was a pleasant surprise as he worked his way up the depth chart through the early part of the season.

Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times and Chris Emma of 670 The Score liked the Bears’ move to bring the veteran back:

Financial figures of the new deal were not immediately disclosed. His one-year deal last year was worth $745,000 in base salary, per Over the Cap

The Bears ranked 14th in yards allowed in the first year under head coach John Fox, a vast improvement from their third-worst ranking the year prior.

Fox, a defensive specialist, said that bolstering speed at outside linebacker is among the team’s objectives this offseason, per Campbell.

Through free agency, the Bears have added Jerrell Freeman and Danny Trevathan, the leading tackler for the Denver Broncos’ championship defense in 2015.

The Bears could also add another linebacker in the draft, which would likely put Acho more in a special teams and/or rotational role on defense, per Campbell.
