NCAA Bracket 2016: Schedule and Updated Predictions Before Friday's Sweet 16

Ryan McCrystalMar 25, 2016

Thursday's Sweet 16 action didn't quite live up to the expectations set by the wild opening weekend of the 2016 NCAA tournament.

All four higher seeds emerged victorious by double digits in the first set of Sweet 16 games.

Fortunately, Friday brings us another fun slate of games, as four more teams will punch their ticket to the Elite Eight.

Here's a look at Friday's schedule and the updated bracket.

March 25No. 6 Notre Dame vs. No. 7 Wisconsin7:27 p.m.TBS
March 25No. 10 Syracuse vs. No. 11 Gonzaga9:40 p.m.CBS
March 25No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 5 Indiana9:57 p.m.TBS

No. 10 Syracuse vs. No. 11 Gonzaga

This certainly doesn't feel like a No. 10 vs. No. 11 matchup, as both Syracuse and Gonzaga have been among the powerhouse programs in the sport over the past two decades.

The key to this matchup will be how Gonzaga adjusts to Syracuse's 2-3 zone.

The zone should allow Syracuse to contain Gonzaga big man Domantas Sabonis, which will put more pressure on Kyle Wiltjer, the Bulldogs' go-to shooter on the outside.

If Wiltjer, who hit five of his eight three-point attempts in the first two rounds, gets hot from beyond the arc, Gonzaga should be able to advance.

Prediction: Gonzaga 77, Syracuse 71

No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 5 Indiana

North Carolina breezed through the first two rounds, but the Tar Heels take a significant step up in competition level in the Sweet 16.

While North Carolina may boast the more complete team, the best player on the court might be Indiana's Yogi Ferrell.

The undersized Ferrell doesn't receive as much hype as a future pro as some of Carolina's starters, such as potential lottery pick Brice Johnson, but in this matchup, Ferrell will be the best pure scorer on the court. And this time of year, sometimes the one guy capable of taking over a game is the difference.

Fortunately for the Tar Heels, they have two talented defensive guards in Marcus Paige and Joel Berry II.

According to Andrew Carter of the Charlotte Observer, Berry will get the first crack at slowing Ferrell:

"

It's going to be Joel Berry starting out on Yogi Ferrell tomorrow, by the way. A challenging match-up for both on both sides.

— Andrew Carter (@_andrewcarter) March 24, 2016"

If Carolina's duo can contain Ferrell and prevent him from taking over the game, the Tar Heels should continue to march on.

Prediction: North Carolina 80, Indiana 74
