Liverpool Transfer News: Latest on Mario Gotze, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Rumours
Arsenal will challenge Liverpool in the hunt to sign Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze this summer, with the Germany international also wanted by former club Borussia Dortmund. Plus, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is understood to be "likely to go" at the end of this season.
According to German newspaper Bild, Dortmund are ready to offer Gotze a route back to Signal Iduna Park three years after he left for the Allianz Arena (h/t Chiara Biondini of TransferMarketWeb).

The 23-year-old will enter the final year of his Bayern Munich contract in June, and it's been suggested the reigning Bundesliga champions could sell the player rather than lose him for nothing in 2017.
It's been mooted Gotze could hook up with former Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, and Bundesliga pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft recently touched on their "father-son" relationship:
Arsenal have long been mentioned as one of the English outfits interested in the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner, but international team-mate Mesut Ozil currently occupies the No. 10 role at the Emirates Stadium.
One of Gotze's main frustrations at Bayern is that he's been frequently played out of position on the wings or too deep to have any creative impact. However, Fjortoft later claimed the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti at the helm this summer could convince the player to stay:
Gotze joined Der FCB in 2013 after his €37 million release clause was activated, and Bayern may stand to recoup a large chunk, if not more than that figure if they were to cash in this summer.
Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer said in January the club will hold talks with Arsenal target Gotze in the summer, where he may choose to extend his stay at the club, per Goal's Stefan Coerts:
"I said it was madness when there were rumours about a transfer in January, whereas Mario was talking about the end of the season. Mario's comments were an indication that we will have to sit down at some point in the coming months and discuss his situation. That is only logical.
I cannot see anything negative about what Mario said. He has put a few things up for discussion and we will clarify everything in the second half of the season. A lot of things will have been resolved by then.
"
Oxlade-Chamberlain's potential departure could free up space in the midfield for Gotze to join the Gunners, and the Daily Mirror's John Cross reported "serious interest from Manchester City, Liverpool and his previous club, Southampton."
The Saints' introduction as a potential suitor is a particularly intriguing addition to the transfer mix, but Opta statistician Orbinho questioned who would want the player after a poor season at the Emirates Stadium:
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 17 starts this season, and the form of star winger Alexis Sanchez has impeded his route into manager Arsene Wenger's plans, combined with a string of injury woes.
Five years after the 22-year-old completed his £12 million switch to north London, the playmaker is reportedly surplus to requirements at the club and will be allowed to leave as part of Arsenal's summer exodus.
