Sebastien Bellin, Pro Basketball Player, Injured in Brussels Airport Bombing

Sebastien Bellin, who most recently played in the second division of Belgium’s basketball league with the Gent Hawks, was injured on Tuesday as part of the terrorist attacks at Brussels Airport. 

An image revealed Bellin on the ground at the airport with his leg bleeding, per Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press (WARNING: LINK CONTAINS GRAPHIC PHOTO).    

Greg Kampe, who coached Bellin at Oakland University from 1998-2000, was alerted of the photo featuring Bellin and discovered Bellin was approximately 100 yards away from one of the blasts when he was checking in for a flight, per Snyder's report. 

Kampe told Snyder he was "pretty devastated over all of this," adding his understanding of things involving Bellin is he needed surgery on his leg with another one scheduled at some point.

Kampe did add that doctors don't consider Bellin's injuries to be life-threatening: "They don't know the extent of the damage. He's under sedation so nobody's really talked to him. All they know is he's in a ton of pain."

The 37-year-old Bellin, who was born in Brazil, has played professional basketball in Italy and Belgium since his college career ended in 2000. He has played for 10 teams during that span, winning a Belgian championship in 2007 with Telindus Oostende. 

Kampe told Snyder that Bellin often returned to Oakland every summer to work with the team while he was playing professionally in Europe and the two have kept contact in the 16 years since his graduation from the university.
