Petr Cech Suffers Calf Injury vs. West Brom

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech was substituted with a calf problem during his team's clash with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The veteran's withdrawal was noted by the Baggies' Twitter account, and David Ospina replaced the Arsenal man between the sticks:

Broadcasters noted the Czech star suffered a calf issue while knocking a square ball to Shkodran Mustafi.

Losing Cech is a big blow for a Gunners team that can be fragile at the heart of its defence. 

The group needs a commanding, experienced presence behind them to dictate and calm things in the box. At his best, Cech provides those qualities despite a mixed time at Arsenal.

Even though the former Chelsea man won the Golden Glove for keeping the Premier League's most clean sheets during the 2015/16 season, he was guilty of several errors.

Still, Cech has been commanding in a number of matches, and his leadership is valued at the base of the team.

Wenger has previously said he has "complete confidence" in Cech's deputy, per the club's official site. The Frenchman is right to consider Ospina a capable stand-in, but any club would miss what Cech can offer when he's on form.
