Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger Discusses Zlatan Ibrahimovic Rumours, More

Christopher SimpsonMar 18, 2016

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said the Gunners are not considering a move for Paris Saint-German striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic "at the moment."

The Frenchman was speaking in a press conference on Friday and was asked about the Swede, who will be available for free this summer. Per John Cross of the Daily Mirror, he said:

According to the Mirror's Hamish Mackay, he added: "At the moment no we are not on that case. Where we are at the moment is short term. We are not on Zlatan’s case. At the moment my priority is not to go in the transfer market about possible signings. We are not at the moment thinking of signing anybody."

Cross had earlier reported Ibrahimovic "has been offered" to the Gunners, who must now weigh up whether to pursue him.

The veteran has bagged an incredible 35 goals and 16 assists in 39 matches this season, helping PSG wrap up Ligue 1 with eight games remaining and reach the business end of the UEFA Champions League and both domestic cup competitions in France.

Arsenal have struggled for goals at times this season with Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott all enduring some poor form in front of goal at one time or another.

Ibrahimovic's age would only make him a short-term solution, but his prolific strike rate and winning mentality would make him a phenomenal signing for any Premier League team this summer, so Wenger shouldn't pass up the opportunity to recruit him.

The Gunners face Everton on Saturday and will have to contend with in-form striker Romelu Lukaku, and Wenger believes the Belgian has improved since Arsenal first considered signing him five years agoaccording to Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard:

Per Mackay, he said: "Yes, we knew him in Belgium but at the time he opted to go to Chelsea. He is developing every year. His finishing is better, his technical is better. He has better numbers."

Indeed, the 22-year-old recently bagged his 25th goal of the season in a brace against his former side, the first goal of which was truly stunning, per BT Sport Football:

Squawka Football and BreatheSport hailed his phenomenal strike record:

ESPN's Alex Shaw believes he should be bought this summer whatever the price:

Per Sam Cunningham of the Daily Mail, the Frenchman was also asked how Arsenal will deal with him on Saturday:

As Football365's Daniel Storey noted, that response might not provide too much encouragement for Gunners fans given Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar just bagged five goals between them over two legs with Arsenal:

The striker is a potent combination of power and skill, and he undoubtedly has a world-class future ahead of him.

They'll be coming up against him in astounding form, and if they're not at their best the Belgian will be on hand to punish them.
