Liverpool Transfer News: Latest on Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Top Reds Rumours

Tom SunderlandMar 15, 2016

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is "seriously considering" a Camp Nou exit this summer, according to the latest reports, and rumoured suitors Liverpool may be willing to offer their target a route out.

Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo claimed the Germany international is unhappy playing back-up to No. 1 Claudio Bravo (h/t Daily Star's Marc Williams). According to ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan, Ter Stegen remain coy when quizzed on his future at the club:

The 23-year-old has made 23 appearances under manager Luis Enrique this season, but only four of those have come in La Liga as Bravo continues to hold down the first-choice role in Catalonia.

FourFourTwo mentioned Liverpool as being among the player's admirers and provided further quotes from Ter Stegen, who highlighted an increase in first-team involvement as a priority:

"

The truth is I'm not really thinking about the future for the time being. I'm focused on tomorrow [against Arsenal], which is really exciting for me. It's a game where I have the opportunity to play again. The future is a long way away. But for the time being I'm interested in tomorrow. We want to win, I want to win, that's it.

If I can play football I'm not interested in anything else. Of course there is always pressure but I'm always excited about playing. If you can win games like tomorrow's, you have to enjoy that.

It's a question I get asked a lot but I'm really only thinking about tomorrow. I want to do my best and the end of the season is far away. You never know what the situation will be. It's football, we'll see how things go. The situation is the one we've got. Of course you want to play as much as possible, but for now I play in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey and I want to play to my best ability all the time.

"

The comments come after another topsy-turvy period for Liverpool goalkeeping incumbent Simon Mignolet, whose campaign has been dotted by highs accompanied by concerning, mistake-ridden lows.

Bleacher Report's Rik Sharma voiced his belief that Barca would be making a mistake if they were to sell Ter Stegen, still in his development, before adding the player would be a hit in the Premier League:

Liverpool chief Jurgen Klopp could also play a factor in any bid to sign ex-Borussia Monchengladbach stopper Ter Stegen, and the German pair may yet make for a good fit at Anfield if the Reds can guarantee minutes.

However, Bravo turns 33 in April, meaning Barca may consider promoting Ter Stegen in the near future to keep him around, while his £63 million buyout clause, per Williams' report, makes him a difficult purchase.

It's also come to light that Liverpool will have to fight Manchester United, as well as Manchester City, if they're to sign Arsenal playmaker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, per talkSPORT's Warren Haughton.

The Red Devils are a new addition to the race and will provide hefty competition for the England winger, but Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News has claimed City may already have enough talent in that area:

Liverpool will welcome winger Lazar Markovic back to Anfield this summer after his loan at Fenerbahce, but Klopp may consider adding more wide talent after the club failed to purchase a direct replacement for Raheem Sterling last summer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been something of a fringe figure at the Emirates Stadium this season, playing a full 90 minutes in the Premier League just once, and the exit could start to appeal unless things improve in the near future.
