Tannenbaum Comments on Foster's Visit with Dolphins
Wednesday, March 30
Miami Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said Foster's visit "went well" but that "he's a little bit away" from being physically ready to play, per Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald.
The Dolphins announced they met with Foster on Tuesday.
On Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN initially reported the meeting would take place. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the Dolphins are "unlikely" to sign Foster on Tuesday, as the running back "can't go full-speed yet."
While Foster could pass a physical, per Rapoport, Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reported Foster is "still a few months out from being fully cleared."
Foster Taking Time to Make Free-Agent Decision
Friday, March 11
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the four-time Pro Bowler, who missed 12 games with a torn Achilles tendon last season, could wait until after the NFL draft to make a decision.
Foster Continues to Struggle with Injuries
When healthy, Foster is one of the best running backs in the NFL. The 29-year-old has eclipsed 1,200 yards four times in his career and has scored 54 touchdowns.
Florio said although some perceive the oft-injured back to be "washed up," he could eventually be a steal for a team that signs him.
"It makes Foster this year’s Chris Johnson, and Johnson became a pleasant surprise in 2015 for the [Arizona] Cardinals," Florio wrote. "Foster could end up making a difference for someone in 2016; it ultimately could be the Broncos, if they don’t match the offer sheet signed in Miami by C.J. Anderson."
The New England Patriots are also in a need of a running back, and many other teams could use a player of Foster's caliber even if they have a starter already penciled in.
Foster seems to know what he is doing, and instead of rushing into a contract that might not be the right fit, he'll be able to find the best option that will benefit both sides.
