True Thailand Classic 2016: Friday Leaderboard Scores and Highlights

Rory MarsdenMar 11, 2016

Australia's Scott Hend and Sweden's Pelle Edberg are tied for the lead on 12 under par going into the weekend's action at the 2016 True Thailand Classic.

Friday's second round saw Edberg shoot a five-under par 67 to go with his 65 from Thursday, while Hend's excellent 64 saw him fly up the leaderboard at the Black Mountain Golf Club.

Thailand's own Panuphol Pittayarat sits alone in third on 11 under and first-round leader Peter Uihlein is joined by four others in a tie for fourth on nine under.

Edberg set the early pace on Friday having been just one off the top after the first round's play.

Having parred the first four holes he picked up shots at five, six and nine to reach the turn in 33 with a two-shot lead.

Bogeys at 11 and 14 were tempered by an excellent birdie on 13, and the 36-year-old then brought his round home in style, picking up further shots at 15, 16 and 17 to stay atop the leaderboard.

Unlike Thursday, when two bogeys in his last three holes saw him relinquish the lead, a fine finish on the second day should see Edberg head into the weekend with significant momentum.

He will be playing on Saturday with Hend in the final group after the 42-year-old Aussie posted a faultless second round that included six birdies and an eagle.

The eagle came at the par-five second following a birdie at the first and he picked up another shot on the way out at the fifth.

His back nine was close to perfect, a birdie at the 12th coming courtesy of a fine approach to the fringe and a delicate putt before he got up and down at the par-five 13th having hit the green in two.

Birdies at 17 and 18 saw him into a tie for the lead, with a final up-and-down topping off a brilliant round, per the European Tour:

Indeed, his 64 was a tie for the course record and, unsurprisingly, he had only good things to say about Black Mountain, per the Asian Tour:

Pittayarat's was another bogey-less round, with the local favourite carding an excellent 65 thanks to birdies at two, five, six, nine, 10, 12 and 18.

Meanwhile, Uihlein was unable to repeat his excellent performance from Thursday and had to settle for a 71 in a round that included four bogeys and five birdies.

However, he remains very much in touch and produced a birdie-birdie finish, the first coming courtesy of one of the shots of the day, per the European Tour:

The two-under-par cut-line saw the week finish early for the likes of Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Miguel Angel Jimenez, but the field remains incredibly strong in Thailand.

Hend and Edberg undoubtedly have the edge over the rest of the field going into the weekend, but they will need to remain consistent if they are not to be overhauled come Sunday.
