Rand Getlin of NFL Network reported Grimes agreed to a two-year, $16.5 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The move came just one day after Bleacher Report's Jason Cole noted that Grimes' wife's frequent social media outbursts may have been giving teams pause about signing him.
Veteran Grimes Remains Productive CB
Grimes, 32, was expected to be cut due to his age and $9.5 million cap hit, per Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald.
"That proved simply too expensive for an aging player who was clearly in decline," Beasley wrote. "Grimes was victimized by some of the league’s best receivers last year. Sammy Watkins, Brandon Marshall and Odell Beckham Jr. all exposed him."
The writing was on the wall when Miami was in the process of trading for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Byron Maxwell, which was finalized Wednesday.
Despite his struggles, Grimes was still a reliable contributor last year—he just wasn't worth what the Dolphins were paying him. However, Miami didn’t even seem keen on restructuring a deal after finding his outright replacement.
