Ranking the Week's 20 Hottest Transfer Rumours with Gotze, Gundogan and De Gea

Karl MatchettMar 11, 2016

Another week has gone by with the global media focusing on possible transfers that could take place in the summer, with many rumours sourced from potential or already confirmed managerial changes.

Our latest roundup of transfers is ordered according to the fee involved, the size of the buying club and the reputation of the player being signed.

Get involved in the discussion and suggest which players your team should be steering clear of and which would be excellent additions.

20. Jerome Sinclair

1 of 20

Liverpool reserve forward Jerome Sinclair is set to leave the club this summer when his contract expires, and it had been thought that Watford was his likely destination.

But the Mirror's Neil Moxley has reported Aston Villa are instead hoping to make their move as part of their restructuring this summer.

A £3 million bid was turned down for Sinclair in January, and Liverpool are likely to wait and chance their arm for bigger compensation by tribunal.

19. Jack Grealish

2 of 20

Jack Grealish burst onto the scene last season with Aston Villa, but he has failed to make an impact in a struggling team this term.

He is one of several who could leave, per the Telegraph's John Percy, with Villa near certain to be relegated to the Championship this summer and a high turnover expected on the playing staff front.

Grealish was a driving force behind Villa's run to the FA Cup final last season, but he has had run-ins with current boss Remi Garde, as noted by the Guardian's Peter Lansley.

18. Aston Villa Clear-out

3 of 20

Villa's exodus isn't just restricted to Grealish, though—there's likely to be a whole host of departing faces once the club's relegation is confirmed.

The Telegraph's Percy further reported the Villans are set to offload four more players, all signed last summer: Jordan Ayew, Adama Traore, Idrissa Gana and Jordan Veretout.

Marseille are said to be moving for Gana, and Veretout is wanted by Bournemouth.

17. Samuel Umtiti

4 of 20

French defender Samuel Umtiti has opened up a possible u-turn on his previous thoughts of being a one-club man, telling France Football (h/t talkSPORT) that he will "rule out nothing" in terms of moving on from Lyon.

Newcastle United have targeted Umtiti over a long period, and the comments from the defender have given rise to rumours that the Magpies will be in the market for him over the summer, attempting to convince him to make the move now.

That may, of course, depend on whether Newcastle maintain their Premier League status.

16. Emanuele Giaccherini

5 of 20

Sunderland flop Emanuele Giaccherini has an unlikely second chance to shine in the Premier League, with Chelsea reportedly interested in his signature.

The Sunderland Echo's Richard Mennear cites sources in Italy as suggesting Antonio Conte wants to make the wide man one of his first signings if he joins the Blues in the summer, as many expect him to.

Giaccherini is back in Serie A this season, on loan with Bologna.

15. Timo Horn

6 of 20

Liverpool's search for a new goalkeeper goes on apace according to the transfer rumours of the week.

It's no surprise to see the club looking to Germany and the Bundesliga, too, with Cologne's Timo Horn the latest object of their affections.

German newspaper Bild (h/t the Mirror's Liam Corless) suggested the Reds are one of three teams chasing Horn, with Arsenal and Manchester United the other two—though both of those have senior, first-choice and well-established top-class talents as their current No. 1.

14. Jonas Hector

7 of 20

Liverpool's coverage of the Bundesliga isn't looking limited to goalkeepers, either, with Bild (h/t the Mirror's Corless) further reporting the Reds are after another Cologne star.

The Reds want Jonas Hector and are said to be able to snare their man for €8 million, with Cologne happy to sell despite Hector having suggested he wants to stay.

Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe took a look at what the defender could offer the Reds if they make their move.

13. Marc Bartra

8 of 20

Tottenham Hotspur might be fighting for Premier League honours, but their 3-0 destruction by Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Europa League round-of-16 first leg has shown they still have some way to go to compete on the European stage.

To that end they're looking at bigger clubs' cast-offs, and there's a big boost for Spurs as the Mirror's Ed Malyon reported Barcelona are willing to sell central defender Marc Bartra to them this summer.

Sevilla are also mentioned as interested, and Barca are said to want a buy-back clause in any sale agreement.

12. Domenico Berardi

9 of 20

Tottenham's search for a striker to play with, or instead of, Harry Kane looks set to be one of their most important pieces of business this summer.

Calciomercato (h/t Metro's Will Giles) suggested Spurs are looking at Sassuolo's Domenico Berardi as the man to solve their problems, with the 21-year-old capable of both scoring and creating in his role in Serie A.

Juventus are said to have a £14 million buy-back clause in his contract, but Spurs have been tracking Berardi for some time and are ready to make their move.

11. Jack Butland

10 of 20

Liverpool have already been linked several times with Jack Butland down the years—by Sky Sports' Michael Kelleher, for example—including before he eventually signed for current club Stoke City, as noted by the Sun's Graham Hill. Now the two are back in the newspapers.

The Daily Star (h/t the Mirror's Aaron Flanagan) reported the Reds are looking to make a move for either Butland or Southampton stopper Fraser Forster over the summer in one of their main areas for rebuilding the team.

Liverpool have been incessantly linked with new goalkeepers despite Simon Mignolet receiving a new deal.

10. Wilfried Bony

11 of 20

West Ham United look set to indulge in further spending to reinforce their striker pool for Slaven Bilic, despite plenty of captures in that area of the park over the last few seasons.

Manchester City's Wilfried Bony is now one of their prime targets, with the Ivorian unable to lock down regular playing time since leaving Swansea City for the Etihad Stadium.

West Ham's list of strikers also includes Christian Benteke and Michy Batshuayi, per the Mirror's Adrian Kajumba.

9. Adrien Rabiot

12 of 20

Arsenal are looking to revisit their interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot over the summer.

French outlet Le10sport (h/t the Mirror's James Whaling) suggested the Gunners still want the central influence who they initially sought in January.

Rabiot, who has been unable to secure regular first-team action when everybody is fit, has said he wants to leave PSG.

8. Ilkay Gundogan

13 of 20

Germany international midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to be one of the most in-demand players of the summer, with his future at Borussia Dortmund far from certain.

A £23 million bid is looking on the cards from Manchester City, per the Guardian's Jamie Jackson and Stuart James, after the club was reported meeting with his agent.

Gundogan has been a star at BVB again this season after regaining form and fitness following a long lay-off.

7. John Stones

14 of 20

John Stones is looked at as England's finest young defender by many, and he has long been thought to be interesting plenty of Europe's top sides on account of his composure on the ball and strong defensive play.

However, per the Mirror's Ed Malyon, Barcelona have lost interest in signing him now over concerns he would not adapt to La Liga.

That, coupled with a price war set to develop, means the Catalan club are leaving Stones to the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United to fight over instead, while they themselves pursue Aymeric Laporte or Marquinhos.

6. Nemanja Matic

15 of 20

Chelsea's failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, should the remainder of the season transpire as expected, will lead to many of their top talents leaving.

The Express' Tony Banks reported Nemanja Matic is the top name set to exit in the summer, with Oscar, Loic Remy and John Terry also departing.

Up to nine players from the first team squad could leave Stamford Bridge, according to the report, leaving a big rebuilding job to ensure they're ready for fight for honours next season.

5. Mario Gotze

16 of 20

Yet another German-based player potentially on his way to Liverpool, if rumours are to be believed at least, is Mario Gotze.

The Bayern Munich attacker has a year left on his contract and is unlikely to get a new deal offered, according to German outlet TZ (h/t the Independent's James Orr), with incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti not considering him a key player.

Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool are all said to be interested in Gotze's signature.

4. Eden Hazard

17 of 20

Eden Hazard's future continues to be surrounded by convoluted scenarios that seem to depend more on other teams and players moving around than because anybody else specifically wants him.

The Chelsea star is reported by the Telegraph's Jason Burt to be on PSG's wishlist, but only if they fail to land Cristiano Ronaldo or keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the squad for next season. Real Madrid are also said to be admirers of the Belgian.

For their part, the report says Chelsea aren't keen to sell so soon after he renewed his contract, so the rumour is likely to be ongoing for a while yet.

3. David De Gea

18 of 20

Real Madrid's shopping list for the summer is a long one, according to Marca.

There are candidates in place for defence, midfield and attack, with Zinedine Zidane particularly looking for central reinforcements, but only one position has just one name on: the goalkeeper.

Manchester United's David De Gea almost joined Real last season, and the report suggested the club directors find a move for the Spaniard "irresistible" as he will end up first choice for club and country for years to come.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo

19 of 20

Cristiano Ronaldo will be offloaded this summer by Real Madrid—but not because they want to sell him, rather because they want to buy other players.

Sport reported Real want to sign Alvaro Morata and Robert Lewandowski in the summer but both players have said they will not sign if Ronaldo remains in place.

The €80 million move for the Pole and the €35 million buyback for the Spaniard are thus going to force Real's hand into offloading Ronaldo, who would likely recoup most of that total outlay.

1. Arturo Vidal

20 of 20

While Matic, Oscar and Co. may leave Chelsea, that frees up big funds for the club to restructure with incoming deals.

Banks' Express column cited earlier indicated who a few of those might be, too, with Bayern Munich's Arturo Vidal top of the list of players to help the new manager return toward the top of English football.

Radja Nainggolan and Mauro Icardi are also mentioned as possible targets, and Chelsea's first-choice XI could look extremely different in five months' time.
