Patrick Robinson Agrees to Contract with Colts

Joseph ZuckerMar 7, 2016

Cornerback Patrick Robinson agreed to terms with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, announced the team.

“We’ve been interested in Patrick since early in free agency and we’re glad it finally came together,” said Colts general manager Ryan Grigson, per Colts.com:

"

We have some strong ties on our coaching staff with him so that familiarity is always a plus. He is a versatile, experienced and steady corner that gives us immediate help opposite Vontae [Davis]. He was a fit on a number of levels in regards to overall skill, but also adds some strong intangibles. We’re happy with this addition to our team.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on Monday Robinson visited with the Dallas Cowboys.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reported on March 7 the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears were also interested in the six-year veteran.

Robinson struggled to find consistency in his first five years with the New Orleans Saints after the team selected him 32nd overall in 2010. The San Diego Chargers took a chance on him, signing him for one year and $2 million.

The 28-year-old's performance far exceeded the value of that deal. He registered 49 combined tackles and intercepted a pass. Pro Football Focus graded him the 30th-best cornerback in the league last year.

As a whole, the Chargers took a small step forward in 2015. According to Football Outsiders, they ranked 25th in pass-defense DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) in 2014, improving to 22nd in 2015.
