Chelsea Transfer News: Radja Nainggolan Plays Down Move, Miralem Pjanic Rumours

Tom SunderlandMar 5, 2016

Chelsea have received mixed news in their pursuit of a certain Roma midfield duo after Radja Nainggolan shot down talk of a move to Stamford Bridge, while Miralem Pjanic's social media activity has raised a few eyebrows.

Nainggolan was quizzed on recent reports tying him to Chelsea by Italian outlet Calciomercato, and the Belgium international responded by insisting he's fully focused on all things Roma for now (h/t Sky Sports): “Rumours about Chelsea? These have been circulating for a few years, but I am calm. At this moment I’m concentrating only on Roma."

The Blues may take subtle comfort in the part of Nainggolan's answer that asserts he's concentrated on Stadio Olimpico matters "at this moment," hoping that means he could be tempted away in the future.

A move to west London could see Nainggolan link up with international compatriots Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Charly Musonda—on loan at Real Betis—and potentially tempt him into a switch.

Chelsea's midfield has undergone a change this season, and the engine-room duo of Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic are no longer considered as irreplaceable as they were en route to last season's Premier League title.

David Amoyal of Gianluca Di Marzio gave his take on the 27-year-old's potential switch to England and said Nainggolan would be "perfect" for the English top flight:

Per WhoScored.com, Nainggolan has averaged 1.9 tackles per Serie A game this season, more than any other Roma player to have made 10 appearances or more, evidence to the tough-tackling asset Chelsea could get their hands on.

A more finessed capture would be that of maestro Pjanic, and Metro's Tom Olver provided evidence of the midfielder "liking" a tweet from Squawka's Greg Johnson explaining why he'd be a good fit in west London.

We live in an age where every slightest click of a mouse can be interpreted as evidence of one's transfer intentions, and Pjanic's online activity may suggest he's open to a Chelsea move in future.

Olver provided reports previously linking the Blues to the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, 25, whom ASRoma.com editorial comlumnist Julian De Martinis recently attested to being one of Italy's most prolific puppeteers this season:

The Daily Star's Jamie Styles sourced a report from Matt Hughes of the Times, which claimed Chelsea managerial target, ex-Juventus coach Antonio Conte, has identified Pjanic as a priority should he take over at the club this summer.

The stars could be aligning for one of Italy's most revered talents to make his way to the Premier League, and Chelsea fans may be pleased to learn Pjanic looks open to a deal.
