Liverpool Transfer News: Sergio Gomez Eyed from Barcelona, Lazar Markovic Latest

Reports linking Barcelona's Sergio Gomez with a move to the Premier League have intensified this week following rumours Liverpool are interested in a move for the youngster. Plus, manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed Lazar Markovic still has a future at Anfield.

Luis F. Rojo of Spanish daily Marca reported Liverpool "are willing to pull out all the stops" in order to get their hands on Gomez, 15, but the promise of Premier League competition for the player is apparent.

The Reds are reportedly eager to agree a deal for Gomez in time for when he turns 16 in September of this year, at which point the English giants will be free to recruit the foreign talent.

Gomez currently represents Barcelona's Cadet A team, and Rojo alleged Liverpool's attention was caught at a tournament in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, last month, where they were beaten 4-3 by a Barca team led by Gomez. Not only that, but Barcelona's official Twitter account later confirmed the player received the MVP award:

Liverpool are already looking forward to the arrival of Serbian central midfield talent Marko Grujic, who will move to Anfield this summer, but the prodigious Gomez has earned rave reviews in his native Spain.

The Merseysiders may be better equipped to entice the playmaker with higher wages, but Rojo added the player's current club "will mainly rely on the player's loyalty to Barcelona."

Grujic won't be the only Serbian talent arriving back at Liverpool, however, after Klopp confirmed Markovic—currently on loan at Fenerbahce—will have his chance to impress before the 2016-17 campaign.

Metro's Lee Thomas-Mason provided quotes from the manager after Markovic was spotted at Anfield on Mamadou Sakho's Snapchat account, and Klopp explained his sudden appearance:

"

Lazar has a muscle problem so he is back for us at the moment.

You will have to ask the doctor for the exact diagnosis but he's not available. He's not our player for this season so he will have to go back.

We had a little talk about things. I said at the start of pre-season you will be very welcome and then it's up to you.

"

It's worth pointing out this doesn't necessarily mean Markovic will be at Liverpool by the time next season kicks off, merely that he'll have his opportunity to prove why predecessor Brendan Rodgers was wrong to loan him out.

Bleacher Report's Jack Lusby was happy to hear Markovic would be given a shot under Klopp, clearly of the impression he's been underutilised since moving to Anfield from Benfica in 2014:

The winger has scored just two goals in 20 appearances for Turkish giants Fener this season, but Markovic was showing signs of improvement under manager Vitor Pereira prior to his recent hamstring injury.

Markovic has struggled to shine for Liverpool like he did at former clubs Partizan Belgrade and Benfica, but Klopp will offer a fresh pair of eyes on the player and may yet be capable of salvaging his Liverpool future.
