Leodis McKelvin to Eagles: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
Leodis McKelvin spent the first eight years of his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills, but he's moving on to the Philadelphia Eagles after hitting the open market last Friday.
The Eagles announced the two-year deal Tuesday, while Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the pact is worth just over $6 million. The move comes a day after the Eagles reportedly agreed to trade cornerback Byron Maxwell to the Miami Dolphins along with linebacker Kiko Alonso for undisclosed draft-pick compensation, per Rapoport.
According to NJ Advance Media's Eliot Shorr-Parks, McKelvin indicated at his introductory press conference that he was ready for a change of scenery:

A move to Philadelphia will also represent a reunion of sorts for McKelvin and Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz—whom McKelvin played under in Buffalo.
Schwartz discussed McKelvin's talent with Dave Spadaro of the Eagles' official website:
"He's had a long history as a player, was drafted in the first round (11th overall, 2008) and, other than some injuries, has always played at a really high level. He can play inside, he can play outside, he was a good tackler, had great ball instincts, was a good, all-around player and has been that way for a long time.
"
And as Philadelphia Magazine's Tim McManus noted, McKelvin recorded a career-high four interceptions with the Bills as Schwartz orchestrated the team's defense during the 2014 season.

"I can play anywhere," McKelvin said, per the team's official Twitter account. "I see myself playing anywhere that this coaching staff wants me to play."
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane, McKelvin pointed to scheme as a major reason he committed to sign in the City of Brotherly Love:
"McKelvin is only two seasons removed from being the eighth-highest-graded cover corner in football," Pro Football Focus' Mike Renner wrote. "He’s been plagued by injury the last two seasons, however, and limited to only 955 snaps, but at full health, Philadelphia got a fantastic deal."
McKelvin's health is undeniably a red flag, considering he hasn't suited up for a full 16 games since 2011, but the Eagles have been in need of veteran stability on the outside for years now.
It also helps that McKelvin told reporters Tuesday this is the healthiest he's been in the past four years, according to the team's official Twitter account.
The Eagles front office still needs to address its other starting cornerback spot—2015 starter Nolan Carroll is an unrestricted free agent—but signing McKelvin is a solid start for a defense that needs to be sound on the back end in order to take the pressure off a developing front seven.
