Garrett Graham Released by Texans: Latest Comments and Reaction
The Houston Texans cut veteran tight end Garrett Graham on Thursday, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle and Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. The team announced the move later on Thursday.
The move saves the Texans $3.125 million in salary-cap space, per McClain.
Graham, 29, appeared in just eight games for the Texans in 2015, catching four passes for 30 yards and a touchdown. But he never appeared to fit in head coach Bill O'Brien's offense, catching just 22 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns in two seasons under O'Brien.
He had his best season as a pro in 2013, catching 49 passes for 545 yards and five touchdowns in Gary Kubiak's last season as the team's head coach.
Ryan Griffin and C.J. Fiedorowicz remain on the roster at tight end, while McClain noted that the team is expected to add another player at the position in free agency or via the draft.
The move comes on the same day that running back Arian Foster was also released by the Texans, per the team's Twitter account.
McClain noted that the Texans cleared a lot of cap space on Thursday, and that was before the team released Rahim Moore:
Graham will have appeal for teams looking to add veteran tight end depth at a discount rate in free agency. Returning to Denver and reuniting with Kubiak could make sense for Graham, as he clearly fits Kubiak's system, and the Broncos are already utilizing veterans like Owen Daniels and Vernon Davis.
