WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for March 3

Erik BeastonMar 1, 2016

Dean Ambrose endured a brutal assault at the hands of Triple H on Raw, but Tuesday night during the WWE SmackDown tapings, he returned to action. Thanks to our friends at WrestlingInc.com, we have all of the spoilers for this week's show.

WWE intercontinental champion Kevin Owens eluded to his desire to mix it up with Ambrose one last time a week ago on SmackDown. Unfortunately, injuries suffered after his run-in with Brock Lesnar prevented The Lunatic Fringe from attending the show.

Tuesday night during this week's tapings, they not only confronted each other; they battled one last time before The Showcase of the Immortals.

It was not the only high-profile rematch on this week's show.

Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks will square off one last time, with the winner heading to WrestleMania in Dallas for a Divas Championship match against Charlotte.

Also in action are AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler and The League of Nations as SmackDown continues to spotlight some of the most talented in-ring performers on the roster.

Results

  • Dean Ambrose kicked off SmackDown with a promo. Intercontinental champ Kevin Owens interrupted and talked about not having a match at WrestleMania. Owens tried to sneak attack Ambrose but was blasted with a steel chair.
  • The League of Nations defeated The Usos. After the match, The Dudley Boyz hit the ring and teased putting The Usos through a table, but they did not.
  • Dolph Ziggler defeated The Miz.
  • Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch when Charlotte got involved and beat both women down. No winner was determined.
  • AJ Styles defeated Kofi Kingston.
  • Ambrose defeated Owens in a nontitle match. After the match, Ambrose delivered an elbow drop onto Owens and onto a table, which did not break.

Analysis

Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens has been WWE's go-to match for far too long. Neither man can really afford a loss at this point, least of whom Owens, who is treading water as the intercontinental champion. Another unnecessary loss like the one he suffers on this week's show only serves to magnify the complete mismanagement of the extraordinarily talented wrestler.

Five years ago, AJ Styles vs. Kofi Kingston would have been a dream match of sorts. Thursday night, it should be a very strong match between, arguably, the best wrestler in the world and a dynamic performer whose work as a heel has surpassed anything he did as a babyface.

The lack of a definitive outcome in Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch's No. 1 Contender's match is no surprise to anyone who has watched wrestling before. It is so clear that WWE Creative is aiming for a Triple Threat match pitting Charlotte against her two rivals that one wonders why it is even going through the paces when it could outright announce the match and still make fans happy.

Overall, the March 3 episode of SmackDown looks like a solid broadcast brimming with strong matchups from start to finish.

Ambrose vs. Owens never disappoints, and Styles' hot streak should continue, two reasons to tune into USA Network this Thursday.
