Pretenders In The South Eastern Conference Third Edition
The SEC is now ready to begin a real run for the championship. The Ole Miss Kool Aid Party is over and South Carolina has found their identity. Georgia is beginning to realize that if they win this year it will be by sheer determination, not due to superior talent. LSU has realized that this is not a dominating defensive team. All in all, life is now how it should be in the SEC.
Team Standings by Division
Western Division
Alabama: looked quite solid in their SEC opener against Arkansas. They proved they can win with the pass and did so today. They also proved that they can shut down a high powered offense as they did today as well. Return coverage still seems to be a problem. In my opinion this has been by far the most consistent performing team in the SEC this year. Alabama plays Kentucky next week and it should be a blow out.
LSU: The Tigers survived the Mississippi State Bulldogs today. The LSU defense wasn't dominating but did make the plays necessary to win the game. Mississippi State is playing good football this year. I warned of this after watching them play Auburn. LSU faces off with Georgia next week. This one will be good!
Auburn: Auburn did as expected today and blew out Ball State early and played deep into the depth chart. Auburn is still a work in progress and it is hard to read this team. The one thing that is for sure, Auburn Vs. Tennessee will be a match up where the whole country can see how Auburn handles a good SEC defense. Tennessee still has not found an offense and Struggled against Ohio today.
Ole Miss: This team is now settled and dangerous. Houston Nutt's MO has always been a dangerous coach to play when he is an underdog. Ole Miss will now proceed to further thin out the ranks of the SEC as they have been thinned out. While this team is certainly no conference contender it will knock off some team that is. Watch Out Alabama and LSU.
Arkansas: This team has some positives to take out of the bludgeoning that was administered by Alabama today. At times they seemed to have a defense on the field. If a defense shows up on one play it can show up on all plays. This is a sign of maturing as a team.
Mississippi State: This team upset Vanderbilt last week and came within a yard of upsetting LSU today. Good things are happening in this program. Look for improvement throughout the year.
Eastern Division
Florida: This team seems to have woke up today. Kentucky was beaten before they took the field. Florida looked formidable today and worthy of their first spot in the Eastern Division. Some scent was still evident in the outhouse though. This Florida Team is a one man team offensively right now. If this continues, Florida will go down eventually. The have to find a game breaking athlete to take the pressure off of Tebow.
Georgia: Won against Arizona today and Arkansas last week. the common thread was a poor performance on defense. Georgia has a big hole and some one will drive an animal through it if it is not patched up. It very well could be a Tiger this week.
South Carolina: This is a team that has found an identity. They will not win the east, but should make some other teams nervous right now. The throughly whipped the Ole Miss Rebels this week and repeat performances will come.Kentucky: Scratch all thoughts of Kentucky being anything but a door mat team this year. Ball State put up a better game today than Kentucky did.
Tennessee: Struggled against Ohio today. The have no offense and it is unlikely they will find one this year.
Vanderbilt: After being beat up by two SEC teams Vandy played RICE in an ego sweller today. They play Ole Miss this week and just might give them fits.
Top Pretender Western Division
Auburn: is the top pretender in the SEC West simply due to a lack of known candidates and they are still unknown and developing. They have already exceeded all of their season expectations. They better be ready this week against Tennessee.
Runner Up
LSU: If you play with fire long enough you will get burned. They have not shown the ability to put away opponents yet.
Top Pretender Eastern Division
Georgia: They have no defense to keep their winning ways on the right track.
Runner Up
Kentucky: Some people actually thought Kentucky had a football team. It was no where to be found this week.
