HS Basketball Team Celebrates State Title Prematurely, Loses on Buzzer-Beater

It ain't over until the fat lady sings—and for the Burrillville High School (R.I.) boys basketball team, she had a particularly cruel surprise.

With a one-point lead and just four seconds between them and the Division III state title, the Broncos intercepted an inbound pass to virtually seal the victory over Chariho High School. And they reacted accordingly.

Except they overlooked one minor detail: A Chariho player caught the ball and called a timeout with one second left on the clock.

That single second turned out to be the Broncos' demise, giving the Chargers just the right amount of time to float in the game-winning bucket at the buzzer.
