Knock Knock Knockin' On a Freshman's Door

Andrew LoveSep 26, 2009

You'd think Mark Richt would have learned his lesson after Joe Tereshinski (commonly refereed to as "shitski" among red and black faithful).

You'd think after watching a Freshman in Matthew Stafford lead his team for three years, he would have figured it out. Well Georgia fans, he didn't. Aaron Murray still watches from the sideline.

Coming in to his Freshman year ranked as Rivals No. 3 QB, Aaron Murray has drawn comparisons to the likes of Brett Farve to Tim Tebow.

Standing only 6'1 and 198 LBS, he may not have the size of Terrelle Pryor that makes you ooze smiles. One look at his somewhat pretty-boy looks may cause you to remember John Parker Wilson.

If you have these thoughts, he'll tell you to check his highlight reels. He has the arm ability of a Matthew Stafford, and the foot speed of a Tim Tebow. How's that smile coming along now?

You don't need to preach the difference between high school and college football to me. I know the insane rise in talent from one level to the next. So does he.

Reports from around the UGA campus though shoot down fears of not being able to handle the competition: he's creating one.

A competition for the starting QB job this year for the Bulldogs. Even with the freak game Joe Cox displayed against Arkansas, one doesn't need to look much farther past his abysmal game at Arizona State to call for his seat on the hot seat.

Some say it's out of respect to give a good story like Joe Cox a chance. Some say he deserves it more than anyone else.

Oklahoma State laughs at that notion. Florida will too.

While he has shown flashes of brilliance, he has also shown the lack of an accurate and strong arm to get the ball to weapons AJ Green and Micheal Moore.

While he hasn't been terrible, one starts to recall a similar situation at that "other school" in the heart of Atlanta with two men named Reggie Ball (Cox) and Calvin Johnson (Green).

Granted, it has only been 3.5 games as I type this, but the feeling is overwhelming.

So when will see this young gun strut his stuff? Some argue we haven't gotten the chance because every game the Dogs have played this season has been a close scare. Others say it won't be until next year, when him and Logan Grey have the off-season battle for the title.

But still, some remain optimistic at the notion that just maybe Mark Richt will open his eyes somewhere down the long road this season, and think, "Ah what the hell, let's give the Freshman a go." The Bulldog Nation will be waiting with bated breath.
