Marcus Thornton to Be Waived by Rockets: Latest Details and Reaction

The Houston Rockets are reportedly making changes to their roster by waiving guard Marcus Thornton after he played 47 games for the team this year.

Thornton's agent, Tony Dutt, told Mark Berman of Fox 26 that the Rockets are waiving Thornton. The Vertical confirmed the move on Friday.

Per Berman, Dutt also said Thornton's goal will be to find a place where he can both play and win:

This marks the end of an eventful week for Thornton, who was originally part of the Feb. 18 trade with the Detroit Pistons involving Donatas Motiejunas.

However, due to Motiejunas' lingering back problems, the Pistons voided the trade, and Thornton returned to Houston. The 28-year-old hasn't played in a game since Feb. 10 against Houston while waiting for a resolution.

Thornton signed a one-year deal with the Rockets that pays him $1.2 million, per Spotrac, so the team isn't taking a big financial hit by dumping him. He's been a solid bench player in Houston, averaging 10.0 points and 2.4 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per game. 

While not a high-percentage shooter, Thornton does have streaky tendencies that could make him a valuable addition to a contender that needs depth at guard. He's not going to cost a lot of money and has been able to stay healthy this season after missing 34 games last year.
