Wyatt Family Freefall, a Dolph Ziggler Tag Team and More from the Shane Mailbag

Alfred KonuwaFeb 25, 2016

WrestleMania season always seems to begin just before fans can really start complaining about how disappointing it is.

I'd be remiss if I didn't address Shane McMahon's return right off the bat. Yes, there were plenty of Shane-O-Mac, questions. No, none of them made the cut. This mailbag is about quality, and there were far too many great questions about other angles. In fact, this batch was so good, there were two questions of the week.

Still, Shane's return was awesome. As for his upcoming match against The Undertaker? Well, at least his return was awesome.

Styles Crash?

AJ Styles is fitting right in with WWE, but longevity is out of the question. WWE is wise to book Styles near the top of the card to get its money's worth while it can, but there needs to be a ceiling, given his age and wrestler mileage.

Styles' feud with Jericho has been better by the week. I truly hope Jericho turns on Styles as soon as their newfound bromance gains steam. Once this feud is finished, Styles can be used as a rich man's Dolph Ziggler. Somebody who can have a great match with a wide range of talents without passing a certain level.

It's fair to question how much longer Styles will be able to wrestle at a high level as he enters his age-39 year. If WWE invests too much in him, it'll only have itself to blame if his body begins to break down during a major program, which has happened far too often lately.

For now, fans need to treat Styles like the Nae Nae. Enjoy it while lasts, because the next dance craze (read: top Internet darling) is not too far behind.

Question of the Week No. 1: Team Ziggler?

This is a great question. Ziggler seems like he's entered the phase of his career where his only hope of truly flourishing on the WWE roster is in a tag team. It's basically his Zack Ryder phase.

Ziggler is talented, but his feud with Owen,s has been done to death. He won't catch anybody off guard with a strong wrestling match anymore because fans are too conditioned to seeing him lose them.

Ziggler in a tag team would be a good way to not only preserve his health after years of death-defying bumps, but also to revitalize his career. Crazy as it sounds, a heel Ziggler and The Miz would be magic.

The two are both from the state of Ohio, and they often travel together, as seen on the WWE Network series Ride Along. Their chemistry is off the charts. Even when they've feuded in the past, it feels like the friendliest game of Roshambo ever.

Ziggler couldn't be accepted as a heel on his own merits; not at this point. But Miz is so good at being a villain, his obnoxiousness would easily rub off on Ziggler. Miz-Ziggler would be an improved version of the successful Miz and Morrison tag team, with Miz as the self-important A-lister in his own mind, and Ziggler as the wise-cracking prima donna.

Forgive me for possibly overestimating the possibilities, but nothing would stop them.

New Day, Same Segment?

It's WrestleMania season and WWE's top tag team feud is a non-title war of words between The Dudley Boyz, The Usos and their dad. This is good, because WWE's investing time in a non-title tag team feud will train fans to take the entire division seriously. It's bad because The New Day is so good it should be in every segment, let alone tag team segments.

The New Day will likely be weaved into the Dudleys-Usos program, or perhaps WWE has plans for it to defend the titles against another unit. With all the talk about the Dudleys refusing to use tables, I can't help but think this will end in the Dudleys being coaxed into having a match involving tables.

It's possible that the Dudleys, The New Day and The Usos square off in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match at WrestleMania, but fans already saw a very good tag team TLC match in December that will be hard to top.

Question of the Week No. 2: Flair for the Troll?

Charlotte is getting more comfortable as a heel with every passing week, and I think the presence of Ric Flair helps her come off like a spoiled brat.

Given Flair's credentials, it's easy to confuse the Flair-Charlotte dynamic as WWE using Flair to get his daughter over. But she does most of the talking, while he serves as an accessory that's almost as luxurious as the ones he wears.

Despite crafting her entire persona in dedication to her legendary father, Charlotte is managing to come into her own even as he stands right next to her. And—here's what's brilliant—all of it feels fresh.

Maybe Flair is a good-luck charm. Charlotte as a babyface was robotic and seemed to be desperately searching for a voice. Most people would rather not bring their parents to work. But Charlotte does, and it's working.

The New Face of Panic?

The Wyatt Family suffered two major losses in two nights. First it inexplicably lost to Team Titan at WWE Fastlane. Then, after months of speculation from PWInsider (h/t Wrestling Inc), it lost the Brock Lesnar Sweepstakes for WrestleMania.

If I were the Wyatt Family, or any of its followers, I'd be scared to death right now. There's no Undertaker and no Lesnar with 30 spots to fill in the "How the Mighty Have Fallen" Memorial Battle Royal. And, at this point, they wouldn't even be the favorites in that match. Ryback would.

Remember that slogan from Monday, "Break it, take it"? Brilliant. People don't cut promos like that without winning something tangible.

The Wyatt Family is slowly beginning to resemble the senior in high school who was homecoming material yet too picky to find a prom date. But it's not all the Wyatts' fault.

The Wyatts have been in plenty of positions over the past year or so to cement themselves as The New Faces of Fear. Unfortunately, it seems they've lost one too many big matches.
