Edgar Unavailable to Replace Dos Anjos

Tuesday, Feb. 23

"If you’re clamoring for [Frankie] Edgar, he’s unavailable, I’m told. Dealing with an injury," Helwani tweeted.

Indeed, while Edgar deserves a shot at the featherweight title, at this juncture McGregor will be well into his lightweight weight, meaning a fighter who usually fights at 155 pounds is surely the most logical choice to replace dos Anjos.

Diaz Could Save McGregor's UFC 196 Main Event

Diaz has been a regular in the top end of the lightweight division for a while now and won his most recent fight against Michael Johnson. Diaz also took dos Anjos to three rounds in December 2014 before losing via unanimous decision, although the Brazilian has improved since then. While it's not an ideal fight for McGregor, given his desire to win another title, on such short notice, it certainly isn't a bad fight. Diaz is always competitive, and should give McGregor a stern test.
