The welterweight championship fight between champion Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter has been postponed due to Thurman being involved in a car accident, according to promoter Lou DiBella, via Jake Donovan of BoxingScene.com.

Thurman, undefeated at 26-0-0, was set to defend his championship against Porter (26-1-1) on March 12. Thurman's injuries are not considered to be serious, per Donovan.

Mike Coppinger of Boxing Junkie noted Thurman suffered a neck injury in the accident.

Shawn Porter was to fight welterweight champion Keith Thurman on March 12.

The welterweight title fight was set to take place at the Mohegan Sun Resort in Connecticut, headlining Premier Boxing Champions' prime-time card on CBS, per Coppinger.

“While it’s unfortunate that we must temporarily postpone this marquee matchup, a main event of the magnitude of Thurman vs. Porter requires both fighters be healthy and at their best,” DiBella said in a statement, per Esther Lin of Showtime Sports. “Keith is anxious to resume training as soon he is able and both he and Shawn are looking forward to a new fight date.”

Thurman and Porter were originally scheduled to fight Dec. 12 in San Antonio, but Donovan later reported it would be pushed back to March 5 in Las Vegas. However, with UFC 196 set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on March 5, the bout was rescheduled for March 12 instead.

Dan Rafael of ESPN.com noted there's a possibility the other fights on the card could be switched from CBS to Showtime, but no decision has been made yet.

No date for the Thurman-Porter match has been announced, either.
