Christopher SimpsonFeb 20, 2016

Sara Errani dropped just two games as she won her ninth WTA title on Saturday, sweeping aside Barbora Strycova 6-0, 6-2 in the 2016 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships final.

The Italian bageled her opponent in the opening set in less than a half-hour and eased to the second set almost as comfortably. She was delighted with her first premier title, per WTA:

Strycova's nervy start saw Errani break her to love in the first game. The 28-year-old then held comfortably for a 2-0 lead in the final.

Strycova put up slightly more of a fight in the third game as she saved one of two break points, but once again sloppy play curtailed her effort as she sent a simple volley wide.

The Italian was showcasing her talent as she moved her opponent around the court. A particular highlight was her execution of a lovely drop shot from a narrow angle, per WTA:

Strycova showed another small sign of life as she contested a 26-shot rally in the fourth, but an unforced error allowed Errani to take the game. The break ensured Errani was serving for the set.

The Italian made two errors of her own and a double-fault as she was pegged back to deuce from 40-0 up in the final game. Strycova sought a narrow lifeline and earned a break point, but she couldn't see out the game and soon lost the set 6-0.

The tournament's official Twitter feed felt the Czech player at least made the final game respectable:

Sports journalist Stephanie Myles and Tennis TV revealed the unsurprisingly one-sided stats following the first set:

Errani raced again to a 2-0 lead in the second, spurring the crowd to vocally show their support for her helpless opponent.

Roared on by the supporters, Strycova finally won her first game of the match, per tennis writer Alex Macpherson:

As Tennis TV captured, the 29-year-old acknowledged the crowd's contribution:

There was little suggestion the game would see her produce a comeback, though, with Errani continuing to produce moments of magic with another impressive drop shot, per Macpherson:

Strycova showed further resilience as she won a second game at 5-1 and then saved four championship points in the next, but all she was able to do was briefly delay the inevitable as Errani saw out the match 6-2:

After a disappointing 2015, Errani will take great encouragement from not only her performance in Dubai but an impressive title, too.

As for Strycova, the Czech showed her true qualities in reaching the final, but her subpar showing there could take some time to bounce back from.
