WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE Fastlane 2016 for Week of Feb. 19

Aaron BowerFeb 19, 2016

With WWE Fastlane rapidly approaching on Sunday, the rumor mill is beginning to intensify about that show and WrestleMania 32.

Plans are changing for both events all the time, although the 'Mania plans will inevitably become clearer following Fastlane this weekend.

Here are the latest rumors doing the rounds on the Internet as WWE prepares for its second pay-per-view of 2016.

Plans for the Divas at WrestleMania 32

Although Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch is the Divas match that everyone is expecting at WrestleMania later this year, it's not impossible there could be another bout from the division at the show.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t LordsofPain.net) notes that officials from the company are thinking about a second Divas match for WrestleMania, which, if true, makes a lot of sense.

You would imagine Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks will be the go-to rivalry for the championship heading out of Mania, which means the rest of the Divas need something to keep them busy.

Divas such as Lynch, Natalya, Naomi and Paige are too talented to remain idle, so giving them some vital exposure at the biggest pay-per-view of the year will be a smart move.

It will keep the rest of the division on screen and keep fans interested in what's going on beneath the title rivalry.

A Rey Mysterio Appearance at WrestleMania?

One particularly interesting rumor this week concerned former WWE champion Rey Mysterio, who had been linked with a return to the company.

Mysterio, who is wrestling with Lucha Underground, has been touted for an appearance at WrestleMania, but according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t PWMania.com), that will not be the case.

The report says that "despite speculation on the Web," Mysterio cannot legally show up at WrestleMania because he would have to breach his Lucha Underground contract to return to WWE.

Even if he doesn't show up at WrestleMania (and it's hard to see where he'd fit in anyway), there will be a time when Mysterio and WWE eventually reunite.

It seems like it's going to happen, just not at the moment.

Undertaker's WrestleMania Opponent Decided

With talk of Braun Strowman facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania now starting to fade away, it seems there is a lock on who will face The Deadman at the biggest pay-per-view of the year.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t LordsofPain.net) reports that WWE officials have decided who will take on The Undertaker. What's interesting, though, is that the report mentions that Taker's opponent is someone who is not on the roster, which opens up a few possibilities.

The obvious option is John Cena, who could make it back in time for Mania, but there's also the prospect of Sting being the mystery man to set up a dream WrestleMania bout.

Going beyond that, WWE fans may look for an outside bet and consider someone such as Kurt Angle, although there are obviously a few stumbling blocks to get over in that regard.

Either way, minds will race with news that Taker's Mania opponent is someone who is not active in WWE at the moment.
