Thomas Duffy
Referees are used to heckling, threats and complaints.
Getting pelted in the midsection with a beer can doesn’t fall under the job description, though.
During a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League contest last week, the referee called a roughing penalty on Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward Francis Perron. Perron’s older brother, Alexandre, didn’t like the call, so he let the official know.
By hurling a beer can at him.
According to Le Journal De Montreal (h/t Yahoo’s Greg Wyshynski), the brew was “nearly full.”
As punishment, Alexandre was ejected from the arena, arrested and released. He will be forced to go before a judge on May 10 and could be charged with assault.
