Qatar's Al-Sadd Spanish player Xavi Hernandez (C) dribbles the ball between UAE's al-Jazira player Ali Mabkout (L) and Yaqoub al-Hosani (R) during their AFC Champions League third round qualifying football match at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dh

He may have played over 750 times for Barcelona, but that's no guarantee that Xavi's time in Qatar is going to run smoothly.

The Spain legend was in action last night for Al Sadd against Al Jazira in the third qualifying round of the AFC Asian Champions League.

And when the two sides couldn't be separated after 120 minutes, the 36-year-old put his hand up to take Al Sadd's first spot-kick in the penalty shootout.

It didn't go as planned:

In the end, it turned out to be a crucial miss, with Al Jazira prevailing 5-4 in the shootout and derailing Xavi's continental dream—for another year, at least.
