Lakatriona Brunson Becomes 1st Female Football HC in Florida History
Miami Jackson Senior High School hired Lakatriona Brunson to be its head coach Monday, making her the first female head coach in the history of Florida high school football, according to Peter Ariz of CanesInSight.com.
Luther Campbell was hired by Brunson to be the team's assistant coach, per AL.com's Creg Stephenson, who noted Campbell has experience as an assistant coach at the high school level and "runs a highly successful youth football program in the city."
Brunson, also known as "Bernice," is most famous for appearing on the truTV reality program South Beach Tow, a show centered on Tremont Towing and its employees. In an interview with Madeleine Marr of the Miami Herald in September 2014, she revealed that she was a huge fan of all the sports teams in Miami and also worked as a teacher and the dean of discipline outside of appearing on the show.
Miami Jackson went 3-6 last season under coach Earl Little, a former University of Miami and NFL player who spent two seasons as the head coach before stepping down in January.
