Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Dean Ambrose
When Samoa Joe eventually makes the jump to the main roster, he will likely do so in the heel role he has thrived in since arriving in NXT. One of the perfect faces to challenge him immediately would be "The Lunatic Fringe" Dean Ambrose.
Ambrose is one of the most popular Superstars on the main roster, and he has the skill in the ring and on the mic to ensure Samoa Joe gets over with the casual fans. While Ambrose would likely lose the overall feud, it’s the kind of storyline that would give Samoa Joe instant credibility.
Both Ambrose and Samoa Joe are veterans of the independent wrestling scene and have a hard-nosed style. The matches between the two men wouldn’t be technical showcases, but there would be an abundance of violence in this hard-hitting affair.
AJ Styles
Fans of TNA Impact Wrestling have seen AJ Styles take on Samoa Joe many times, but under the WWE banner, the feud would take on a whole new meaning.
Samoa Joe would come into the WWE as an unstoppable monster who tears through his competition, and it will be up to an underdog like Styles to finally slay the bigger man. With WWE portraying Styles in a Daniel Bryan role, the David vs. Goliath storyline would work perfectly.
The hope is that WWE continues pushing Styles toward the main event scene. Samoa Joe deserves to be one of the top heels on the main roster, and coming in as one of the last challengers before Styles reaches the world championship scene would make for an amazing moment.
Add in the familiarity between the two men making Joe’s transition even easier, and another series of matches between Styles and Samoa Joe would be a marquee program WWE could build a secondary pay-per-view around.
Roman Reigns
The favorite to walk out of WrestleMania 32 with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is Roman Reigns, but he will need a marquee storyline once he dispatches Triple H. While Triple H will likely get a rematch at Extreme Rules, Samoa Joe should be the first to challenge Reigns once The Game has been cast aside.
The large contingent of fans who boo Reigns are also likely the same people who would cheer for Samoa Joe, making a matchup between the men polarizing. Reigns will be in the role of top face in the company, and Samoa Joe could be the despicable heel who is the perfect antithesis.
Samoa Joe is skilled enough in the ring to get a solid match out of Reigns, and he has the mic skills to carry the bulk of the speaking workload in a storyline. Reigns would win the overall feud, but Samoa Joe could earn major credit from WWE officials by making their hand-chosen star look better than he is in reality.
