Super Bowl Odds 2016: Vegas Prop Bet and Odds List for Broncos vs. Panthers

Nate LoopFeb 2, 2016

What's better than a Super Bowl for the oddsmakers in Las Vegas? How about a Super Bowl featuring Peyton Manning? Odds Shark's Jon Campbell explains:

"

There are few things sports books love seeing more in a Super Bowl than Peyton Manning pulling his helmet over his ears. The 39-year-old Broncos QB not only played in the most bet-on Super Bowl of all-time, but he's also played in three of the four Super Bowls with the best winning percentages for the House over the past 10 years.

"

Super Bowl 50 pits Manning's Denver Broncos against Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. While much of the attention is sure to concentrate on the game spread and over/under, predicting the outcome or final score isn't the only way bettors can enjoy the big game. Prop bets based on certain game outcomes are just as much a part of the experience.

Nearly every aspect of the game is dissected and assigned odds, from the coin toss—perhaps Aaron Rodgers has a strategy for that one—at the beginning of the game to the color of the Gatorade dumped on the winning coach at the end of the fracas.

Odds Shark has a fairly comprehensive list of prop bets available for Super Bowl 50. There are also breakdowns of some truly out-there bets for only the hardiest of bettors. Here's a look at the latest game odds and a breakdown of some of the more interesting prop bets out there.

The Panthers have better odds to snag the first score of the game, especially when it comes to putting six points on the board. This should come as little surprise. They are the favorites heading into the game, and they've strung together two blistering-hot starts in this postseason.

Carolina blanked the Seattle Seahawks 31-0 in the first half of their divisional-round clash. Against the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game, they scored the first 17 points of the game en route to a 49-15 victory.

Don't rule out Denver, though. Despite the fact it's coming into this game with a mediocre offensive record, it, too, has scored first in its playoff games. A Brandon McManus field goal opened the scoring against Pittsburgh, while an 11-play, 83-yard drive culminating in an Owen Daniels touchdown reception gave Denver the early lead against New England.

Considering their stalwart defense and stumbling offense, picking a Broncos field goal to start the game might not be so crazy.

C.J. Anderson20-1
Von Miller20-1
Greg Olsen22-1

Emmanuel Sanders22-1

It should be of little surprise that Newton tops this list. He's already put together an MVP-worthy regular season, and the Panthers offense simply can't be effective without him playing at a high level.

In his past six games, Newton's enjoyed a passer rating above 100 in five of them. He threw for 335 yards and two touchdowns against an Arizona defense predicated on the pass rush and lockdown cornerback play, not at all dissimilar to what the Broncos are expected to bring to Super Bowl 50.

Even if his passing is substandard, Newton is a major component of the team's rushing attack alongside tailback Jonathan Stewart.

It's tough to imagine Manning winning the MVP unless the game is very low-scoring and he manages to throw a key touchdown while staying turnover-free.

If this game gets into a high-scoring shootout, Broncos running back C.J. Anderson could be a major part of that. He should be the true engine of the Broncos' success Sunday, having rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries in the postseason.

Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly is the defensive player with the best odds. He's returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the playoffs and is perhaps the best linebacker in the game today. Notching a key turnover or two while racking up several tackles could get him the MVP nod.

Here are three prop bets likely to keep people waiting until the end of the game before they know if their bets came through.

It's well within the realm of possibility there's a key challenge flag thrown late in the fourth quarter. We are talking about a game involving Panthers coach "Riverboat" Ron Rivera and a Broncos team trying to deliver Manning a second championship in what could be the final game of his career.

Should Manning get that championship, on-camera tears are very much on the table. If the Broncos lose, it's possible Manning ducks off to the locker room and escapes the camera before the waterworks start (if there are any tears to be had).

CHARLOTTE, NC - JANUARY 17: Cam Newton #1 of the Carolina Panthers shows his trademark 'dab' against the Seattle Seahawks in the 2nd quarter during the NFC Divisional Playoff Game at Bank of America Stadium on January 17, 2016 in Charlotte, North Caroli

If the Broncos do indeed lose, it's quite possible the broadcasters put the word "dab" over toward the end of the broadcast. The move Newton made famous will crop up if the Panthers are scoring well, and a team "dab" at the end of the game feels like a foregone conclusion if Carolina pulls off the victory. Surely, someone will have made sure Phil Simms knows what to call this move, especially with the Panthers the favorite to win.

In his 12 games this season, Manning has only thrown two or more touchdowns in four of them. He's been far more error-prone than scoring-prone this season, though he has curbed that in the playoffs. Overcoming the Panthers defense will be an enormous task, especially considering the zip and accuracy on his passes has declined this year. Manning has been honest about his ailing appendage, per Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel:

"

My arm is what it is. My arm feels OK. My arm has not been the same since I got injured four years ago. I've worked hard to kind of manage the physical limitations.

I got to the point where I think I can be effective. It's just different. It's got a few yards on it, miles maybe.

"

Newton's the likelier choice to throw for at least two scores, but doing it against a vicious Broncos pass rush will be quite the feat. Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware wrecked Tom Brady in the AFC Championship Game, and SB Nation's Stephen White believes they should let those two loose in a similar manner against Newton despite his superior mobility and strength:

"

My advice is that they line up in a 3-4 look as much as possible with a zero nose and two three-techniques. Then, let Miller and Ware run wild around the edges all damn game. Mind you the "zero nose" doesn't always have to literally be a nose tackle. They can also stick a linebacker there, let him hit the center then act as a spy on Newton in the middle while the Broncos secondary plays man-to-man.

"

Though White noted that Newton is going to be incredibly dangerous if given running lanes up the middle, it's probably best that the Broncos don't switch up their pass-rushing schemes too much for this game. Their aggressive, fast defense has carried them this far.

Sure, they're facing the league's best player this season in Newton and a monster rushing attack, but the Broncos are probably the one defense talented enough at every level to stifle them when it matters most.
