Help Wanted: Atlanta Sports Scene

Andrew LoveSep 25, 2009

You know that Chick-Fil-A cow you see driving south on 400 to get into Atlanta? The giant one on the poster that screams: "Wake up Atlanta, Eat Mor Chikin?" You may just think it's a sly add by the good ole' folks from Chik-Fil-A headquarters, but let me assure you it's much more than that.

It is a cry for help.

If commercials and emails straight from Atlanta's sports teams won't grab at your brain, then maybe this chicken will. People of Atlanta, our teams need you. Our city needs you. The country is laughing at us, calling us "fair weather fans" and saying "Atlanta is one of the largest fan bases in the world...for other teams!"

Are you not sick of going to a Braves vs. Red Sox game and seeing more annoying Sox fans starting chants like it's a giant frat party while all we do is chop? Are you not sick of watching the Falcons on TV and feel like half of the upper deck is just employees on break? And what about the poor Hawks, who just now started unleashing their talent. And while they may be able to fill out their small arena, they know that when they are down zero games to three in a playoff game, chances are people want to watch at home.

I know Atlanta is considered the Sports hub of the south and that it covers a wide range of areas like Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina, but with all these people, don't you think we can sell out Turner Field without the opposition being from Boston, New York, or Philadelphia? I know Atlanta is sometimes hard to navigate, but if Atlanta fans are serious about wanting championships to move to this city, the first step is having a city for them to be welcome in.

True, there are some DIE HARD fans that have been here for years, but those people you see blogging online or at the office, not at the actual game where it's important. I'm not going to dive into the argument of whether or not home field advantage actually works, but lets be real: you're the QB for the Atlanta Falcons. You run out before the game to get pumped up by the home crowd and find your vibe/rhythm, but you realize you can still carry on a conversation with the player right next to you because it's so quiet.

You want the gold, go out and get the gold.
