Brock Lesnar Is Being Wasted in a Feud with the Wyatt Family

Alfred KonuwaJan 29, 2016

Brock Lesnar seems to be headed on a collision course with The Wyatt Family. Unfortunately, the collision course is beginning to look more like a train wreck.

As the WrestleMania picture continues to change because of injury, Lesnar looks like he'll get the short end of the stick come April. There was a time when feuding with Lesnar was a main event no matter what. But after lukewarm booking for both parties over the past year, there is currently no juice to a potential Wyatt-Lesnar match.

After an impressive stint in the Royal Rumble, the Beast was unceremoniously eliminated by The Wyatt Family in the middle of the match with no follow-up.

This is a far cry from two years ago, when Lesnar was being booked as unbeatable, with nothing able to stand in his way.

During better days on the WWE roster, it seemed as if Lesnar would be paired in a main event matchup with Roman Reigns or even The Rock. Currently booked against Reigns and Dean Ambrose at Fastlane, with the Wyatts looming, Lesnar appears to be headed for a forgettable WrestleMania 32.

WWE is doing its best to protect Lesnar in defeat. He didn't take the deciding pinfall at WrestleMania 31, it took the entire Wyatt Family to eliminate him at the Royal Rumble and he likely won't take the deciding pinfall at Fastlane.

Despite all the smoke and mirrors, however, it's possible that Lesnar will walk into the biggest WrestleMania of all time as an ice-cold entity. This would be punctuated with a midcard feud against the Wyatts.

If Lesnar, circa 2013, were to square off against Bray Wyatt, this would be very intriguing. Lesnar on top of his game is the most marketable asset WWE hasno matter who his opponent is.

But a slumping Lesnar against the midcard Wyatt Family just sounds like a waste. WWE is basically starting from scratch with Lesnar, and the Wyatts have not done enough over the past year to establish themselves as the elite heels.

WWE had a chance to really solidify the Wyatts through two feuds with Undertaker. After losing cleanly in each, The Wyatt Family now lacks the ability to elevate other talents on its own merit. It's only as good as its opponent, and right now Lesnar is pretty much damaged goods.

With two months until WrestleMania, time appears to be on WWE's side to build momentum. But Lesnar will be preoccupied with his Fastlane match, where he figures to be a lame duck.

From there, WWE will have just over a month to make fans care again. The Wyatts are sure to enjoy a winning streak against inferior competition leading up to WrestleMania. But at this point, even the involvement of Undertaker and Kane might be too little, too late.
