A series of points will be rewarded in each event. Obviously, the division with the most points wins the skills challenge. Let's take a look at what each event entails.
Bridgestone NHL Fastest Skater
Break out your radar guns. The league's fastest skaters will be facing off in a two-man race through a course around the rink.
Each team will send out four players for the event, where they'll race a member from another division. For each race won, the team gets a point. A bonus point is rewarded for the team that had the fastest skater among all those competing.
If a player beats Mike Gartner's record of 13.386 seconds set in the 1996 All-Star Game, another point is rewarded. The Hall of Famer was 36 years old when he set the record.
Honda NHL Breakaway Challenge
It's time for the league's most creative players to show off their stuff. In the breakaway challenge, six players from around the league will participate against one goalie from each team.
The skaters will attempt two shots apiece in which, per NHL.com, "style, creativity, and flair are encouraged" as they attempt to beat the goalies in a shootout-like setting.
The NHL takes a look at the event:
Fans watching the breakaway challenge will decide the winner, voting on Twitter for who they believe is the best. The player with the most votes wins his team one point.
DraftKings NHL Accuracy Shooting
Snipers are welcomed here. The accuracy challenge will see the league's best shooters attempting to hit four 15-inch diameter targets placed in each corner of the net.
In what will be head-to-head matchups, the player that hits all four targets first will win the heat and a point for his time. The player with the fastest time among all shooters will win a bonus point.
Gatorade NHL Skills Challenge Relay
The NHL explains the rules of this event:
"This timed relay event – involving 14 skaters and two goalies from each team – will consist of four relays with five challenges each: One Timers, with three shooters and one passer per team; Passing, with one passer per team; Puck Control, with one skater per team; Stick-Handling, with one skater per team; and Goalie Goals, with one goalie per team.
"
Except for one-timers and goalie goals, each team has to complete each relay before moving on to the next. For the one-timers and goalie goals, a maximum of 45 seconds will be given.
One point will be rewarded to the team with the fastest time in each heat, with a bonus point rewarded to the best overall team score.
AMP Energy NHL Hardest Shot
Nothing pretty or flashy here. Just a test of muscle and your ability to slap a piece of rubber at ridiculous speeds.
From 30 feet out, players will slap two shots toward the goal with the fastest of the attempts recorded.
One point will go to the player that wins each head-to-head matchup, and another will be given to the player with the fastest overall shot.
Discover NHL Shootout
Similar to the breakaway challenge, the shootout will pit skaters against another team's goalie, but all that matters here is your ability to put the puck in the back of the net.
It will be all-out craziness as six skaters from each team will attempt to score against these goalies over a two-minute round.
For every goal scored, the team gets a point. Two points will be rewarded to the player and team that scores with the Discover puck.
