Kerber vs. Konta: Score, Highlights from Australian Open Semifinals 2016
Seventh seed Angelique Kerber will advance to her first career Grand Slam final after a 7-5, 6-2 win over Johanna Konta on Thursday at Rod Laver Arena.
The German, Kerber, got a good scare from Johanna Konta of Great Britain on Thursday. The unseeded challenger rebounded from a slow start to go up 4-3 before dropping the first set. A brief rain shower with the score tied 5-5 in the first seemed to throw Konta off her game, providing Kerber with the opening that she needed to take control of the match.
Though Kerber continues to struggle with her serve, the difference on Thursday may have been the veteran's ability to convert on five of 12 break-point opportunities, where Konta was only able to go 2-for-5 on her break-point chances.
After a relatively easy 82-minute effort against Konta, 28-year-old will face six-time Australian Open champion Serena Williams in the women's final in Melbourne on Saturday. Williams needed just 64 minutes to dispose of fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska 6-0, 6-4 in her own semifinal, played earlier on Thursday.
