"If Bears are to make it to Super Bowl: they need to Turn-er around"

Kenneth CoeSep 24, 2009

After decades of frustration and ineptitude the Chicago Bears' finally have a QB to help their offense look like a real NFL offense and win a Super Bowl after Jerry Angelo threw everything at the Bronco's, including the kitchen sink to land pro bowl QB Cutler.

Gleeful Bear fans with visions of Super Bowl XLIV dancing in their head, quickly yelled,  "all we need now is an experienced wide out and we can book reservations to Miami."

Really!  Is that all the Chicago Bears' need?   Not!

Perhaps after two games and an abysmal display by a Ron Turner offense that has scored only 32 points in two games, 25th out of 32 teams, Bear fans (and Lovie) should have prayed for an offensive coordinator on their shopping list.

Ron Turner has a terrible track record and has been nothing but "offensive" as a coordinator for the Chicago Bears'.  This is Turner's second tour of duty as the Bears' offensive coordinator and his stats read (hold on, I am about to throw up):

2005 NFL Rankings: Offense 29th Overall, 8th Rush, 31st Pass

2006 NFL Rankings:  Offense 15th Overall, 15th Rush, 14th Pass

2007 NFL Rankings:  Offense 27th Overall, 15th Passing, 30th Rushing

2008 NFL Rankings:  Offense 26th Overall, 24th Rushing, 21st Passing

Turner argues he has done a great job considering the merry-go-round of sub par quarterbacks and players he has had to work with.  Well, a new weapon in a record setting Pro Bowl QB that passed for 4500 yds in a Shanahan offense last year should have helped a little?

And those other sub-par players:  Both Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson are the leading rushers on the NY Jets and Cincinnati Bengals respectfully; Bernard Berrian stars for the Vikings; the redux Mushin Muhammad in Carolina; and Kyle Orton is the starting QB for the Bronco's.

No! There is no logically reason Ron Turner has kept his job in an NFL where coaches are let go like used disposable diapers. That Turner has not been fired thus far only leads one to believe he was hired with total immunity and is operating in some kind of witness protection program.

Lovie has uncharacteristically held on to Turner inspite of Turner's ball and chain drag:  Lovie quickly fired Terry Shea in 2004; got rid of popular Ron Rivera; and promoted and demoted friend Bob Babich.  But Turner remains undisturbed?

Ron Turner and his predictable offense will lead to Lovie Smith being fired.  Fans have already put Lovie in their telescopic sights to blame if the Bears' blow it this year.  Remember, Turner has immunity.
