Jackie Young Sets All-Time Indiana High School Basketball Scoring Record

Mike NorrisJan 21, 2016

Princeton (Indiana) High School senior girls' basketball player Jackie Young set the state's all-time career scoring record for boys and girls Thursday after a 39-point performance in a win against Pike Central, per espnW.

Her 3,160 points surpassed former Bedford North Lawrence star Damon Bailey's previous record of 3,134. Bailey became famous in the 1980s when former legendary Indiana Hoosiers coach Bobby Knight said she was good enough to play for him as an eighth-grader, according to espnW.

However, it's now Young who is becoming famous, especially in her home state. IN Basketball HOF shared Young's record-breaking basket Thursday:

Before win No. 23 on Thursday, Young was averaging 37.8 points per game for 22-0 Princeton, per the Indianapolis Star (via espnW), and was named a McDonald's All-American after signing with the No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in November.

Her future team honored her on the Jumbotron on Thursday, per Angelo Di Carlo of WNDU-TV in South Bend, Indiana:

It's certainly a great accomplishment for the 6-footer. With plenty of time left in the season, she should go on to shatter the record, and it's mostly likely going to be hers for a while.
