Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch: Winner and Reaction from 2016 Royal Rumble

Charlotte's impressive reign as Divas champion continued Sunday night at the Royal Rumble, as she defeated former friend Becky Lynch in an exciting title match.

After Charlotte hoisted her belt, Sasha Banks made her way to the ring, per WWE:

After enjoying a great deal of success in NXT, both Charlotte and Becky were called up to the main roster along with Banks this past summer. While Sasha formed Team B.A.D., Charlotte and Becky joined forces with Paige to make up Team PCB.

That stable ultimately ended when Paige turned on the others, but tension soon surfaced between Charlotte and Lynch as well.

The Lass Kicker grew disenchanted with Charlotte when she cheated to beat her in a friendly exhibition match. The bad blood continued to boil as the champ used her father—WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair—to win bouts on a regular basis.

While the dissolution of their friendship seemed like an eventuality, things finally came to a head when Charlotte attacked Becky after losing a match to her on Raw.

With the Dirtiest Diva in the Game officially established as a villain, she and Lynch went on to engage in a highly entertaining feud that led to their huge title match at the Royal Rumble event.

The Ireland-born challenger began to build a great deal of confidence during the build toward the match in the ring but especially on the mic, as pointed out by WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley:

As Charlotte continued to resort to dirty tactics, the crowd support and momentum behind Lynch swelled to a fever pitch.

Even so, the daughter of the Nature Boy made it clear she fully intended to keep the butterfly-emblazoned belt in her possession:

Although it can be argued that the Divas Revolution hasn't taken off as quickly as most hoped when three of NXT's top female talents were called up to the main roster, Charlotte and Becky certainly seem to be making up for lost time.

Their matches prior to the Royal Rumble were extremely entertaining, and the dynamic between them on the mic and from a storyline perspective was captivating, particularly with Flair thrown into the mix as well.

With so much positive synergy between them, WWE Hall of Famer and former Women's champion Lita couldn't wait to see what Charlotte and Becky had in store for one of the year's biggest pay-per-views:

As expected, the chemistry between Charlotte and Lynch was on full display once again, and they put on a strong match that did well to showcase the type of elite talent the Divas division currently boasts.

Charlotte ultimately came out on top, which suggests her feud with Becky could be over, but it has been so entertaining that the creative team may be wise to keep it going through Fastlane at the very least.

It now appears as if it'll be Banks' turn to try to unseat Charlotte as the Divas champion.
