"If everything runs smoothly, the new contract could be signed and sealed during the course of next summer," according to Marca's Jose Felix Diaz.
"Bale is currently under contract at the Bernabeu until 2019, but the club are keen to reward what they deem as an improved attitude and commitment to the cause from the ex-Spurs winger," the report added.
The 26-year-old transferred to Real in 2013 for a world-record transfer fee of £85 million, signing an initial six-year deal.
He is currently enjoying one of his best seasons with the club and has netted 13 goals and provided eight assists in 15 La Liga outings, per WhoScored.com.
Bale is undoubtedly seen as the successor at Real to current main man Cristiano Ronaldo, and Los Blancos are looking to secure the Welshman's long-term future at the club by signing him onto a new deal.
Manchester United have long been linked with making a move for the winger, and they are reportedly prepared to break the world-record fee in order to sign him, per the Manchester Evening News' James Robson.
However, if Real can sign Bale onto extended terms in Madrid, then the Red Devils and any other suitors will have to look elsewhere.
