Sir Alex Ferguson Opens New Office for Apprentice Who Wrote Cheeky Letter

Sir Alex Ferguson made a surprise appearance to open a new office in Wilmslow after a cheeky letter from an ambitious young apprentice.

Francesca Sedgwick, who is 21, wrote to the former Manchester United manager asking him to open the new base of Venturi Recruitment in Cheshire because it would earn her "brownie points" with her new company.

And to the surprise of Francesca and her colleagues, Fergie accepted, turning up at Crown House along with Manchester City legend Colin Bell to cut the ribbon and say a few words, via the Mirror:

In the last 25 years it's been very easy for people to go to college or university. So we find life skills and hand skills once commonplace have been missing for very many years in British industry.

But apprenticeships are important. It creates loyalty and develops their character. They never forget the people who gave them their first opportunity.

"

However, Ferguson also revealed his trip to the agency had come at a cost: "Francesca by the way cost me £1.50. I had to go and pay for the letter at the Post Office."

The embarrassed apprentice was quick to offer to reimburse her special guest, and she explained how she managed the coup:

I was tasked with finding someone suitable to open the office and couldn't think of anyone more famous in Wilmslow than Sir Alex Ferguson, so I posted him a letter.

I was in a friend's car when he called and I couldn't believe it. Sir Alex is a legend and he just rang me up on my mobile phone. I recognised his voice straightaway, but was probably in shock.

I'd sent him the letter the week before and a week later he was on the phone and six days after that he was performing the opening ceremony
