Twitter Reacts as Arsenal, Stoke City Play Out 0-0 Draw at Britannia Stadium

Sean SwabyJan 17, 2016

Arsenal made their annual Premier League trip to the Britannia Stadium on Sunday, a place where they've endured a torrid time in recent years.

The Gunners had lost three of their last five trips up north and last year experienced one of the season's lowlights, falling behind 3-0 by half-time.

To make matters worse for Arsenal supporters, before kick-off, they found out that prolific assist man Mesut Ozil would miss out due to injury.

"

Very cold, no Ozil, weak bench...this could be another horrible day at Stoke. #afc

For his part, Ozil watched from home.

"

Watching the match vs. Stoke! Hopefully I'll be back well for the next match. But for now: COME ON YOU GUNNERS 👏👏 pic.twitter.com/vrS8ncBieJ

Pity because the travelling support came up with a top-class chant for the German playmaker.

Early on in the first half, Aaron Ramsey was booed whenever he received the ball. Ramsey famously suffered an awful leg break at the Britannia Stadium as a result of a Ryan Shawcross tackle.

Stoke fans boo Aaron Ramsey with every touch of the ball because he wasn’t happy about this incident. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ pic.twitter.com/jJADFtBAZE

Ramsey's biggest flaw still that his bones aren't made of titanium, then.

"

Ramsey getting booed consistently for that time he got his leg broken. Scumbag.

Booing Ramsey is a joke.

"

If Aaron Ramsey scores today, he should snap his leg off, throw it into the crowd and watch them feast upon the fresh meaty flesh.

Olivier Giroud nearly opened the scoring with a headed effort but was denied by Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland, who was in fine form for the hosts.

"

Butland, what a save, lad.

Butland's opposite number, Petr Cech, was also up for the task, making a superb double save to keep Arsenal level in the second half.

In the end, the two sides played out a 0-0 draw, which moved Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League on goal differential over Leicester City

After a second straight draw, many Gooners were left to wonder, "What if?"

"

That's not a lot of wiggle room. So while these are generally considered "good points," I just think we will need to turn some into 3 points

— YankeeGunner (@YankeeGunner) January 17, 2016"
"

Not a pretty game (as usually in Stoke) but a hard-earned draw isn't bad. 1 point more than last season or what Man City got.

— AB (@behnisch) January 17, 2016"
"

If Arsenal can hold Stoke, Barcelona should be cakewalk.

— Aarony Zade (@aaronyzade) January 17, 2016"
"

Close game. Had 3/4 great chances. Can't expect more than that. Once again we've been really wasteful in the final third.
