Wednesday Recap

Top seed Ferrer got his first win of 2016 under his belt in double quick time as he saw off Barton in just over an hour.
The 33-year-old did not give up a single break-point opportunity in the match and took three of his own to ease through to the last eight in straight sets.
Per David Long on Stuff.co.nz, the Spanish world No. 8 praised the Auckland tournament after his opening win:
"I feel good, it's nice. I remember when I played my first time here in 2003 and in 2016 I'm still playing. But I like this tournament a lot, it's very sociable, the people enjoy tennis and have fun and that's the most important thing about a tournament."
Tsonga was similarly efficient in seeing off Kohlschreiber in 66 minutes, the second seed breezing through the opener before breaking his opponent in the first game of the second set and seeing out the victory comfortably.
It was less straightforward for third seed Isner, who had to battle hard to get by Querrey.
The first two sets saw the pair exchange tiebreak victories to set up a decider. Isner then finally claimed the first break of the match to take the advantage in the third, and he was able to cling on to his slender lead to book a place in the quarter-finals.
Per the New York Times' Ben Rothenberg, it was a big-serving occasion:
Lukas Rosol knocked out fifth seed Benoit Paire in impressive fashion, seeing off the Frenchman 6-4, 7-6(5) in 80 minutes.
Meanwhile, Anderson was made to work hard by Haase as both sets went to a tiebreak, but the South African's quality saw him through to the quarter-finals.
He will face Jack Sock after the American beat Vasek Pospisil in straight sets. Agut saw off Sock's compatriot Donald Young to advance, while Fognini's victory came against Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker.
